Fill-in flash is a way of brightening a sombre object without overexposing the background. A great tool then. I've noticed though it is not a tool of all trades. Rabbits for instance are not displayed well.
And squirrels are prone to misbehave in a similar manner.
In general terms fill-in flash is not suitable for animals with eyes. This leaves us what? Deep-sea fish, cave creatures and such. Things of this kind is just nuts.
